Not Going Anywhere

Crazy Colors +

Cute Color Names = Playtime!

Warning - Extreme look ahead.  I put this lip look on knowing I wasn't going to leave the house.  Not that I wouldn't in blue lipstick (though I admit I haven't ever), but I didn't do the rest of my makeup to compliment it; I was merely mixing and experimenting on my lips.  I'd love to hear from anybody with the confidence to rock the blue lips in public!  Please comment <3

I finally got a little time to play with makeup tonight! After applying false eyelashes for the first time since don'tknowwhen, I flipped through the latest issue of Nylon (a magazine which I actually kind of find hipster/pretentious - I got the subscription as a GWP at some point) and once again felt really inspired by the edgy makeup looks within.  Remember my Twiggy look? One of my favorites ever :D

This time, the look came from the runway (a designer I've never heard of - Mary Katrantzou Spring '12) and as I flipped to page 080 I found myself saying to my husband, "This girl makes a teal lip look fierce!" as I held up the magazine.  The look was apparently achieved with a trio of MAC pigments blended together (Chartreuse, Hi-Def Cyan, and Teal, if you're wondering).  I'm not really a fan of makeup in pigment form, and anyway I don't want to invest any further in weird lip colors when I've already got a few...

Bottoms Up: Lime Crime Loop de-Loop Carousel Gloss, Mint To Be Opaque Lipstick, and the two blended together
Speaking of which, I'm sure you can imagine my Lime Crime Mint To Be and Carousel Gloss in Loop de-Loop don't get much wear. But I got them to play, anyhow, and play I did.  I think for cheaper if you'd like to play with the latest (see: Illamasqua Human Fundamentalism lipstick in Apocalips) teal lips trend, the look can be achieved by a nice coat of Mint To Be judiciously blended with a bit of Carousel Gloss in Loop de-Loop. Do you agree?

  1. So awesome~! I haven't worn blue lips in public yet, although I have gone grocery shopping with black lipstick xD Mint to Be is just one of those colors that is awesome for playing around with.

    1. Props to you! I'm trying to figure out exactly where I could rock blue lips... maybe running errands would be more fun with funky lipcolor on :)

  2. When I saw this, I did think of the illamasqua! I have yet to see anyone wear the blue lip looks, but it seems to be gaining steam!

    1. Maybe people will only wear it around their living room... but I think it'd rock to see it out at the mall or movies :D Some braver kid than me might do it.

    1. No way, you're not lame! It's certainly a tough (nearly impossible) look to pull off. But you never know, it could look as pretty as on that model, so it's worth a try in the privacy of your house, right?

    1. That's my issue, too. I'd love to find some edgy club to go to and I'd totally rock this. Though I never go clubbing, so I'd literally be going to a club just so I can wear my blue lip look out, haha.

  6. Wow! That is extreme, definitely the kind of look that would just photograph amazingly! Props to you for being inspired and creating something so edgy! I love really really dark purple lips at the moment but am waiting till Autumn before I rock them (unless I embrace my inner child and just do what I want when I want ha-ha)

  10. I am right with you in wishing I could sport crazier lip colors out in public! I think purple lips (like lavender and deeper violet shades) are just gorgeous, but recently I haven't had any kind of confidence to wear them.
At any rate, I love that you were inspired by the article and yours is a great alternative. It's amazing the colors you can create by mixing what you already have!

    1. I love lavender and violet shades, too, but also shy away from wearing them in public. Kind of wish it'd go mainstream like brights have :)

  12. No matter what I do, my lips always look pink, so even if I tried this extreme look, I'm sure the pink would SOMEHOW show through. It always does. Ha! Even though this look is crazy pants, you make it work. You're just that awesome.

  15. Wow. That's some crazy-pants lip color going on there. The weird thing is that I think you actually can kinda pull it off... now, how does one style that look? Like, do you match your lips to your... purse? ;)

    1. Hi Christine, haha, good question! Not sure why but my vibe from the photo that inspired me was to wear creams, tans... Jedi clothing colors! I know you're probably just being facetious ;)

  16. I am. It's funny because I actually hesitated leaving a comment. It's so hard to get facetiousness through in tone in writing and I didn't want you to think I was being a jerk! Emoticons help of course :) ;) <3.....
